After a disappointing finish to the 2024-25 basketball season, Kentucky has their first bit of movement in the offseason. With the transfer portal officially opening today for women’s basketball, the Wildcats had their first player enter their name into the portal.
Clara Silva, who followed head coach Kenny Brooks from Virginia Tech last summer, has officially entered her name into the transfer portal. Silva is a 6’7″ forward from Portugal who will have three years of eligibility left with whatever team she chooses to transfer to. She enters the portal with a “do not contact tag”.
She played in all 31 games this season averaging over 12 minutes a game. In those games she tallied 4.0 points, 2.6 rebounds, and 1.1 blocks, while shooting 56.5% from the field.
In my opinion this is a huge loss for Kentucky in regards to both size and depth. I think Silva has tremendous upside and will succeed wherever she ends up, and the program hates to lose her. Kenny Brooks and his staff have to be hoping that they can hold on to other forwards in Clara Strack and Teonni Key.
The Kentucky women’s basketball program finished 23-8 overall in the first season of the Kenny Brooks era.
