Just like that, Kentucky received their first portal commitment for the 2025-26 season for Kentucky Basketball. It feels a little weird getting a non high school basketball commitment while still having our season active, but that’s just the times we’re living in, so get used to it.
On Friday morning, just eight hours before Kentucky tips off with Tennessee in the Sweet Sixteen, they now have another roster addition for next year. Tulane sharpshooter, Kam Williams, has committed to Kentucky.
The 6’8″ and 190lb transfer averaged 9.3 points, 4.5 rebounds, and 1.3 assists in his freshman season with the Green Wave. He also put of phenomenal numbers from the field, shooting 48.5% overall and 41.2% from deep.
It is super early to try to break down what next years roster will look like, however, with this commitment that is four guaranteed spots on next year’s squad. The three incoming Freshmen, Malachi Moreno, Jasper Johnson, Acaden Lewis and now Kam Williams. This appears to be a piece to replace the likes of Ansley Almonor who will be out of eligibility after the season ends.
The transfer portal season is a beast especially for the teams who are still competing in the NCAA tournament. It will be interesting to see how Mark Pope and his staff approaches the portal while competing for a national championship.
