Yesterday’s season opener matchup against the Southern Miss Golden Eagles was one for the ages but for many different reasons. There was actually a moment that I didn’t think the game was going to be played. Due to the SEC rules about lightning in the area, the game got pushed backed from a 7:45 pm start time to 10:05 pm start.
However, it was so refreshing to see the Big Blue Nation stick it out long enough to see about thirty-five minutes of play time. Kentucky went in to halftime leading Southern Miss 31-0, and after more lightning moved into the area the officials decided to call the game in favor of the Wildcats.
“By mutual agreement of the participating institutions as permitted by NCAA rules, tonight’s game between Kentucky and Southern Mississippi has been terminated and is considered a complete game with a final score of 31-0 in favor of Kentucky. All statistics in the game are considered final and complete,” the school put out in a public release with the SEC.
Now Mark Stoops can focus on week 2 which will be the start of SEC play as the South Carolina Gamecocks come to town.
DraftKings have already set the opening line for the week two matchup with Kentucky being a -7.5 point favorite.

It’s already looking to be a jam-packed lineup for this weekend with the SEC Nation crew coming to Lexington for the game. Laura Rutledge, Paul Finebaum, Roman Harper, Jordan Rodgers, and Tim Tebow will broadcast from the Orange Lot starting at 10:00 am.

You have the Paul Finebaum show on Friday at 3:00 pm, Marty & McGee Saturday morning at 9:00 am, and SEC Nation at 10:00 am.
This game quite frankly might be one of biggest — if not the biggest — games for Kentucky this season. Win next weekend and you start off the season 2-0 and hopefully you can ride that winning streak into the following game when Georgia makes its way to Lexington.
If you are not coming to the game next Saturday then you can watch it from the comfort of your own home with a 3:30 kickoff time on ABC.
