Back in the summer, Kentucky was in a heavy recruiting battle with several schools to try to land a talented cornerback from Columbus, Ohio. That recruit’s name is Dawayne Galloway Jr. Galloway ultimately committed to Purdue on the fifth of July, but this did not last long and wouldn’t even make it to the signing period.
Two days ago, he announced that he was decommitting from Purdue and reopening his recruitment in the 2025 class.
“I have decommitted from Purdue after careful thought and consideration. Thank you to the staff and all involved. I am open to all programs interested in myself,” he said in his announcement.
Back in the summer when Dawayne made his decision, rumors suggested that Kentucky was among the finalists. West Virginia and Penn State were also considered in the mix. However, numerous schools have shown interest in Galloway since his decommitment. Adding to the before mentioned, Illinois, Colorado, Miami, Wisconsin, and Michigan have also shown interest.
Vince Marrow has been recruiting the talented corner from Ohio for quite some time, initially offering Galloway back in the fall of 2023. We know that Marrow has had tremendous success in securing top-tiered talent from that state and now he has the chance on doing that once again. The 6’1″ four-star prospect is the 168th overall recruit in the nation for the class of 2025.
Kentucky currently has a top-25 ranked recruiting class for next season, sitting at 24th overall. With a potential commitment from Galloway, this, in my opinion, solidifies that top-25 class and maybe even moves the Wildcats towards a top-20 class in 2025.
According to his agent, Kentucky is still heavily in the mix for his decision. There is no official time at this point for a new commitment decision, so we’ll have to see how the next few weeks play out. Look for a commitment by early signing period at the very latest, which is December 4th-6th.
