The first AP poll of the women’s basketball season was just released and Kenny Brooks’ debut team in Lexington comes in ranked 22nd nationally.
The AP poll consists of seven total SEC teams.
#1: South Carolina Gamecocks
#4: Texas Longhorns
#7: LSU Tigers
#10: Oklahoma Sooners
#20: Ole Miss Rebels
#22: Kentucky Wildcats
#24: Alabama Crimson Tide
The SEC is the most heavily featured conference in the poll, meaning the ‘Cats will have a lot of competition throughout the season. With the addition of Texas and Oklahoma to the SEC, that’s two more top-ten teams to compete with this year.
Kentucky brings in a brand new coach and only returns two players from last year’s team, with most of the roster consisting of transfers and freshmen. The talent is clearly there, headlined by Virginia Tech transfer point guard, Georgia Amoore, who was just recently named preseason First Team All-SEC.
Other notable new names on the roster are Charlotte transfer Dazia Lawrence, Virginia Tech transfer Clara Strack, and the 6’7 freshman from Portugal, Clara Silva.
The Wildcats start their season at 5:00 PM ET on November 4th against USC Upstate. Kentucky will be playing in the newly renovated Historic Memorial Coliseum, where they look to kick off this new era for the program.
