Kenny Brooks’ first team as head coach of Kentucky has started out 5-0 and is sitting at #15 in the country. The Brooks era has gotten off to a great start, highlighted by Kentucky’s overtime win over a ranked rival in Louisville.

Kentucky has had a week-long break after playing Purdue Fort-Wayne last Monday, and should be well rested for a massive three game stretch coming up.

The Wildcats just landed in Nashville, Tennessee to participate in the Music City Classic, where they will play two Power 5 opponents in back-to-back days.

Game One: Arizona State

The first game of this stretch is against the Arizona State Sun Devils, who are sitting at 3-2 right now with awful losses to Arkansas State and Grand Canyon. Despite this, it will be interesting to see the Wildcats play another Power Conference school. They’ll play Arizona State on Tuesday, November 26th, at 4:30 PM.

Game Two: Illinois

The very next day, Wednesday the 27th, Kentucky takes on 19th ranked Illinois in the second game of the Music City Classic. This will be much more of a test for Kentucky as the Fighting Illini are undefeated at 5-0 as well, including owning a big win over a ranked Florida State team. This will be an opportunity for Kenny Brooks and his team to pick up another big non-conference victory, which will surely be taken to account for tournament seeding at the end of the regular season.

Game Three: North Carolina

After this two game stretch against Arizona State and Illinois, the Wildcats get another week off before playing #16 North Carolina on Thursday, December 5th at 5:00 PM. UNC’s only loss so far this season was against #2 UConn, so the Tar Heels will be looking to pick up their first ranked win of the season against Kentucky.

One of Kentucky’s best players so far this year, Teonni Key, will be playing her former team in this game. She will be an interesting player to watch in this matchup.

Kentucky has the opportunity to really bolster their resumé in this three game stretch, with all three teams being Power Conference teams. The chance to play two ranked opponents in a one week span will be a good test for Kentucky, who could be ranked in the top 5 if they were to win all three games.

Kenny Brooks and his team have looked fantastic so far this season, with a combination of experienced leadership and young talent shining through. This will be an exciting week for the women’s basketball program so be sure to tune in and support the ‘Cats!
