The Kentucky Wildcats are coming off arguably their best win of the season this weekend playing 7th ranked Gonzaga in Seattle. The Cats traveled over 2,400 miles to face the Bulldogs on the road, leaving the east coast with the win and a post-midnight celebration.

In what would be an overtime thriller, Kentucky would win 90-89 and improve to 8-1 overall, earning their second top-10 win of the season with neither coming inside Rupp Arena. If you are anything like myself, I didn’t make the trip but I was standing on two feet in front of my television screen yelling my voice away in root for the victory. It took us into extra minutes to get it, but the final result is all that matters. Kentucky would survive the 16-point halftime deficit and claw their way back, creating quite the rush of emotions during its course.

Heading into the week they were ranked 4th in the previous AP Poll, so with this win and two of the teams ranked above them (Kansas and Auburn) losing games this week, Kentucky should continue to rise towards the top, one would think. Last week it was Kansas at number one, Auburn at number two, and Tennessee at number three, and this week Kansas has lost twice and Auburn has lost once, with Tennessee (and Kentucky) both winning their matchups.

To me, Tennessee and Kentucky would move up in this week’s poll, but after just viewing the release, that doesn’t appear to be the case.

Kentucky finds themselves ahead of 9-1 Marquette and behind 7-2 Duke, a team that they beat just a few weeks ago. I’ll admit, I don’t quite understand the idea of putting a two-loss Duke program that Kentucky beat on a neutral floor ahead of them, and would love to have a detailed explantation because that makes no logical sense to me.

Also worth noting, unranked Clemson jumped all the way up to a ranking of 16th after their home win over Kentucky.

Ahead of Kentucky are No. 1 Tennessee (8-0), No. 2 Auburn (8-1), No. 3 Iowa State (7-1), and No. 4 Duke (7-2). There are also nine SEC program that are currently ranked, which is amazing.
