Kentucky WBB Soars Past Queens (NC) In Bounce Back Game

Kentucky women’s basketball had their first home game in twenty days tonight against Queens (NC), and the 16th ranked Wildcats had no issue bouncing back from the loss against North Carolina last week.

The only other Power 4 opponent that Queens had played prior to this game was their season opener against Wake Forest, where they lost by 62. Tonight, Kentucky cruised to an easy victory, winning the game by 42 points. The final score was 87-45.

It was an impressive night for multiple Wildcat players. Clara Strack finished with 16 points, 6 rebounds, and 2 blocks. Amelia Hassett had one of her better scoring performances of the season, dropping 19 points and hitting 3 threes. Georgia Amoore had a nice game as well, finishing with 20 points and 4 assists on 3-7 from three.

Kentucky got off to a fast start, with a quick five points from Amelia Hassett, including a corner three-pointer. Georgia Amoore added her own triple soon after as well, and Clara Strack made her presence felt down low against the undersized Royals.

By the first media timeout, Kentucky led 14-2.

Kentucky was up 28-9 after the first quarter, led by Georgia Amoore’s 9 points. The ‘Cats went 4-8 (50%) from three in the first quarter, with Amoore hitting two of those.

The second half was more of the same, with Clara Strack continuing to dominate down low. Amelia Hassett kept up her shooting barrage nailing a couple more threes to extend Kentucky’s lead. They maintained a 30+ point lead for the majority of the second quarter.

At halftime, the score was 52-18 in favor of Kentucky.

The Wildcats started the second half a little slow, missing a few shots and committing a couple turnovers. However, midway through the third quarter, Amelia Hassett scored her 1,000th career point!

Towards the end of the third quarter Kentucky started picking it back up. Freshmen Lexi Blue and Clara Silva both got on the board in the third, and Georgia Amoore continued to add to her scoring total. The ‘Cats finished the third quarter up by 47 points.

At the start of the fourth quarter Clara Strack scored the first 4 points, adding to her total. Freshman Lexi Blue buried a transition jumper as well, giving her a career-high 6 points. Saniah Tyler hit a three in the final 30 seconds as well, her first triple of the season.

Kentucky picked up the 87-45 win advancing to 8-1 on the season. The Wildcats travel to Purdue to take on the Boilermakers on Saturday, December 14th at 5:00 PM.
