For what was an odd but very fun early tipoff in Rupp Arena, Kentucky would host the 6th ranked and undefeated Florida Gators, opening up conference play. Fans packed-in per usual, taking in a breakfast with the men’s basketball team.

The anticipated matchup would have both teams fighting for a 1-0 start in the SEC, with hopes on the home side of snapping Florida’s 13-game win streak. A 4-point favorite just moments before the start of the game, Kentucky would end up winning by six, 106-100.

The start to the beginning of the game would have Kentucky 1/6 on shooting and down 10-3, continuing the struggles of starting the game off slow. It would remain as a deficit for the home team until around the 8:25 mark (of the first half) when Kentucky would spark a comeback, tying it at 26. From there on, Kentucky would go on a 26-16 run led by a combined 24 first half points between Koby Brea (14) and Otega Oweh (10).

Halftime: Kentucky 52, Florida 42.

The second half would be just as much fun, with a nuclear performance by Koby Brea, going 7/9 from the three-point line. It was just “one of them days” for the Dayton transfer.

Kentucky would finish with 106 total team points, with the top three leading scorers being Koby Brea (19), Lamont Butler (19), and Otega Oweh (16). As a team, they would shoot 57.8% from the field and 48.3% from the three-point line.

Here are the final stats for Kentucky’s third top-10 win of the young season.

Up next for Kentucky is their trip to Georgia on January 7th, their first conference road test coming at 7:00 PM.
