Coming off a tough road loss to Texas A&M, Kentucky needed a bounce-back win against the struggling Arkansas Razorbacks, and that’s exactly what they got. The Wildcats now move to 17-2 and 6-1 in SEC play with Sunday’s win.

Here is the final box score from the matchup.

The ‘Cats started off strong with a Georgia Amoore bucket in transition after a steal. Arkansas struggled all season with turnovers, averaging 21 per game coming into this one, and Kentucky immediately took advantage of their inability to protect the ball. Clara Strack made her presence felt defensively, with two blocks before the first media timeout.

The ‘Cats got to the free-throw line early and often, with three trips to the line in the first couple minutes of the contest. It was an absolute onslaught from Kentucky, as they led the Razorbacks 11-0 before Arkansas finally called a timeout.

Kentucky continued to attack, getting to the free-throw line over and over by attacking the paint. Saniah Tyler hit a three in the first quarter, and she has started carving out a real role on this team after starting off the year without getting much time on the court.

After going only 1-18 in their loss to Texas A&M last game, Kentucky came out sniping, going 3-5 from three in the first quarter alone. Between three-point shooting, getting to the line, and forcing turnovers, Kentucky dominated the Razorbacks to start the game.

Kentucky continued to hit threes and free-throws in the second quarter, continuing their impressive showing. Freshman Lexi Blue got to see some time in the 2nd, knocking down a three and getting to the line. The end of the second quarter was a little sloppy, with some turnovers and Arkansas hitting some shots, but the ‘Cats still commanded a sizable lead. All-in-all, it was an impressive first half for Kentucky, who seemed much more loose and confident in this one.

The score at halftime was 44-28.

Clara Strack started off the second half on a tear, scoring 9 quick points after struggling a bit in the first half. Amelia Hassett, who also had a quiet first half, then nailed back to back threes. Shortly after, Dazia Lawrence joined the three-point party, hitting back to back triples as well. The three’s continued to fall for Kentucky in the third quarter, causing them to extend their lead even further, After that awful three-point shooting performance against Texas A&M, Kentucky needed to see the ball go in today, and they certainly did so.

The fourth quarter started off a little more sloppy, with Kentucky struggling to get the shots to fall. Still, Kentucky held a 20+ point lead for the majority of the rest of the game, never relinquishing control. Something of note for Arkansas, Izzy Higginbottom, their senior point guard, had over 30 points in this one, responsible for half of Arkansas’s total points.

The final score of the game was 89-69, and Kentucky got a much needed bounce-back win after a tough outing in their last game. The Wildcats take on #19 Alabama in Historical Memorial Coliseum for their next game. The game will be on Thursday, January 30th at 7:00 PM.
