
Kentucky has strung together two straight wins in a row with tonight’s win at home versus #5 Tennessee, and Saturday’s win against the South Carolina Gamecocks. Kentucky also was looking to sweep the two-game series this season against the Tennessee Volunteers, which they did, earning two top-ten wins over the border state rival.
Kentucky jumped out to a quick 6-0 lead early in the first half, setting the tone from the jump. Tennessee got their only lead of the first half at the 12:49 mark, then Kentucky moved back into the lead with the three point basket from Koby Brea. Kentucky didn’t give the lead back in the first half as they outscored the Vols 25-15 to close the first.
Kentucky continued their impressive play early in the second half with a couple of buckets from Amari Williams and a couple of three point baskets from Ansley Almonor and Travis Perry. Kentucky could not put the Vols away as they finally tied the game back up around the 8-minute mark, 54-54.
Kentucky exchanged the lead a couple of times mid way through the second half. However, thanks to the play of both Koby Brea and Otega Oweh down the stretch, Kentucky managed to beat the Tennessee Volunteers with a 20-6 run to end the game, winning 75-64. They now improve to 17-7 on the season and 6-5 in conference play.
Kentucky’s best contributors tonight were Ansley Almonor (13), Otega Oweh (13), Trent Noah (11), Koby Brea (11), and Travis Perry (8). Both Kentucky boys (Perry and Noah) set career-high’s in points. You have to believe that season sweep over a team they hate just as much as you feels super sweet.
Kentucky looks ahead now to their next game which will be this coming Saturday night on the road. They’ll be headed to Austin, Texas to face a tough Longhorns team, new to the SEC. Texas isn’t currently in the top-25 but the Longhorns have some good quality wins over teams such as Oklahoma, Missouri, and Texas A&M. The broadcast will be at 8:00 PM ET on ESPN.
