As we had to wait through four full college basketball games to learn of Kentucky’s first opponent in their conference tournament, we now have our answer. The Wildcats will face 14-seed Oklahoma in the first round.

The Sooners took on Georgia in the opening days of the SEC Tournament, defeating the 11-seeded Bulldogs by six, 81 to 75. Sitting at 20-12 overall with one win in Nashville, they’ll advance to take on the first squad for Mark Pope in this event.

In the Oklahoma Wednesday night win, Jeremiah Fears was their leading scorer with 26 points. Jalon Moore also had a great game, finishing with 14 points and 5 rebounds before fouling out.

Oklahoma has been a familiar face just once this year, coming on the road in Norman as the Wildcats barely escaped the arena after a career-high 28 points from Otega Oweh and a game-winner in his homecoming matchup.

The Wildcats will be without Jaxson Robinson (wrist) and Kerr Kriisa (foot) for their game on Thursday, which is set to take place around 9:30 ET/8:30 CT, following the winner of 7-seed Missouri and 10-seed Mississippi State. Kentucky has not won a SEC Tournament game since 2022, when they defeated Vanderbilt 77-71, dating back to a mark of 1,098 days ago (stat through March 13, 2025). So, I think it’s time to get a win in this city again.
