Kentucky Will Take On Alabama Without Lamont Butler

After suiting up for the Oklahoma Sooners at near 100% healthy, Kentucky’s starting point guard, Lamont Butler, took a pretty hard fall on a play, re-injuring himself and forcing him to be sidelined for the team’s next game. That next game would come just under 20 hours later, taking on 3-seed Alabama and fighting the good fight of a conference tournament playing multiple days in a row.

Just hours out before tipoff, Lamont Butler would officially be ruled out, putting the Wildcats back on their 4th+ rotational point guard in either Travis Perry or Collin Chandler.

It will be a major hit to the team not having Butler available, but I think at this point they are just trying to get him back for the NCAA Tournament, which even that isn’t a for sure. It’s believed to be that he’s suffered a new injury, separate from his current shoulder scenario. It’s not been made public yet on what exactly that is, but it forced him to exit the game and head back to the locker room on Thursday night before eventually returning back to the bench, but not to the game.

Lamont has played in 24 games for the Wildcats this year, missing his 9th game of the season tonight. He’s averaged 11.5 points and 4.3 assists during the year, hopeful to add more to that during this team’s postseason run.

The ‘Cats are set to take on Nate Oats and his high-powered offense momentarily, awaiting the result of Florida and Missouri here in Bridgestone Arena.
