Kentucky’s women’s basketball coach, Kenny Brooks, managed to get his first transfer portal addition late on Friday night. This comes after losing several pieces of last season’s roster to the portal.

The program has added Josie Gilvin, a transfer guard from Western Kentucky University, to their roster for the 2025-26 season.

The six-foot guard from Louisville, Kentucky committed to WKU out of high school in 2022. After spending three seasons in Bowling Green, she’ll now be a senior in Lexington next season and will be a crucial piece for Kenny Brooks’ second year at Kentucky.

Josie is talented enough to be a starter but that is still up for debate on what the staff will decide to do. In her junior season, she averaged 13.1 points, 6.3 rebounds, 2.6 steals, 2.4 assists, and 0.8 blocks all while shooting 53% from the field. While that stat line is incredible, what really stood out was how Gilvin shot from behind the three point line. She shot 50-121 from behind the arc for a percentage rate of 41.3% last season. The stats show that she’s a sharpshooter that can still contribute all-around. She can get to the basket, distribute to her teammates, and still play defense while coming up with multiple steals and blocks on any given game. She also averages a 53.2% field goal rate for her entire career as a Hilltopper, scoring 672 points on 269 made shots, with 419 of those points coming this past season.

After this addition of Josie Gilvin, there is still six scholarship spots left remaining for the 2025-26 roster. Hopefully Brooks will continue to attack the portal to build another impressive roster for his second season with the Wildcats.
