We’re about 6 days out from the Blue-White Scrimmage where Pittsburgh transfer guard, Jaland Lowe, suffered a shoulder injury. A huge hit to the start of season, Kentucky was left scrambling for answers about their tabbed starting point guard in concern last Friday night.
Reports came out over the following days the he did pop it out of place but that it was popped right back into place moments later, and that the staff would further evaluate it over the coming days.
We’re almost a week removed now as Kentucky prepares to face preseason No. 1 Purdue in an exhibition game tomorrow night in Lexington. The Wildcats will be without Lowe for the match, but today in Mark Pope’s weekly press conference today he gave a promising update on Jaland’s status.
“He’s doing good. His recovery has been epically fast. He’s feeling really good. He was back shooting yesterday full speed. We will probably keep him out of live contact for at least another week just to make sure. He’s a massively important part of this season so we just want to make sure he’s healthy before he’s rolling out.”
So, first off, great news. It’s hard to believe that he’s already out there shooting this quick but I’m no doctor nor a shoulder expert so I’m going to roll with it.
Second, it sucks that he won’t be available for Purdue but I’m glad the staff isn’t rushing him back because we’ve got a long season ahead. The full season, actually, as it’s not even started yet. If he’s not even in live action during practice right now I definitely wouldn’t want him playing in a full speed exhibition game. Let’s take our time on this and play the long term game.
Lastly, as someone who covers the team and has to report and write about these type of things, it sure is nice that we are getting real updates about players’ injuries now. The “haven’t seen him” crap got old real quick. It’s super helpful to have real information that you can also believe is true as well. We were never ever trying to put out sensitive information on any player before, we were just trying to keep fans updated on what was going on, and they use to make that really hard to do back under the old coaching staff.
