Otega Oweh’s Buzzer Beater To Send It To Overtime

An all-time moment it was here in Enterprise Center watching Otega Oweh hit a halfcourt buzzer beater to send Kentucky versus Santa Clara into overtime.

That overtime birth would end in a 89-84 win for the 7-seeded Wildcats, now advancing them to the Round of 32.

I’m honestly still kind of lost for words. Part of me wants to be angry we were even in this position in the first place as we should have handled the Santa Clara Broncos a little better throughout the game but the other half of me wants to remember how badly I wanted Kentucky to win this game today when I woke up at 3:40 AM and made the 5-hour drive to St. Louis. On top of that, how exciting it was in the moment watching Otega Oweh give me life once more after literally seconds before having it ripped out of me thinking Kentucky’s season had come to an end after watching Allen Graves hit the go-ahead shot right before.

I think after the range of emotions it put me through and how excited I was in real time watching it all unfold I am just going to take today as an exciting and happy memory that Kentucky is still dancing in March. I’m going to put this shot into the Aaron Harrison category of all-time Kentucky March Madness buzzer beaters and thankfully I got to see this one in person.

Mark Pope and his team lives to see another day. Now they’ll get to stay in St. Louis for the entirety of the weekend and face the winner of Iowa State/Tennessee State on Sunday for a chance to go to the Sweet Sixteen for consecutive years.

Otega Oweh has created some very exciting moments as a Wildcat and this one might’ve just topped them all.

“I don’t know, it just went in. It’s March Madness — that’s the type of vibe it is, I ain’t gonna lie,” said Oweh in his post game interview.

Cold blooded is what you call that.

Here, relive it once more.

The senior guard would finish the game with 35 points, 8 rebounds, 7 assists and a career best shot to send the game to overtime which resulted in a post season win. His 43 minutes were tough, they were resilient, and they were full of consistent effort in putting his team on his back and willing them to a win. He had some help, don’t get me wrong, but he put his head down and went to work the entire afternoon to help keep Kentucky alive and advancing for more.
