La Familia weathered a tough night on Monday, falling to The Ville 82-62, allowing the best-of-three first-round series to be knotted up at one apiece.
The so-called “tough night” didn’t end there; as a matter of fact, it was just getting started.
Former UK guard, Aaron Harrison, and former UK guard, Archie Goodwin, both rostered on La Familia last season, got into a heated exchange on X following the defeat.
Goodwin was listed on the official roster for The Basketball Tournament this season, however, he missed game one due to what the team described as a “scheduling conflict.” Following the game one absence, Goodwin was listed as out again for La Familia’s second contest at the last minute, causing confusion between the fanbase and its own players.
Instead of internally storing his frustration, Aaron Harrison took to X to express what was on his mind, and although he didn’t mention Goodwin’s name, Goodwin responded.
Aaron Harrison’s original post said, “I don’t see how you can say you will show up and be committed…. then don’t show at all the week of???? We could’ve gotten different players that wanted to play and not play with ppl time. Sucka (s**t).”
Now, to be fair, there have already been some roster issues since the team began stocking up on players, as Reid Travis (reported back injury) and Quade Green (unknown personal reasons) both were showcased as on the roster originally before they both backed out of their commitments. So, Aaron could have been talking about all of the roster movement, as he claims he was, but I think a lot of attention was targeted towards Archie Goodwin because he was expected to only miss the first game and not the second, and it was unknown why he was a no-show for Monday night’s game.
Archie Goodwin responded the next morning, saying, “Coming to the internet when you coulda just hit me up or asked Twaney what’s going on is ‘sucka’ shit. Do better dawg.”
Aaron Harrison then responds back to Archie, saying, “I was referring to ALL the dudes who said they would play and just didn’t show up etc…It’s just not a stand up thing to do. Nothing personal just is what it is. Gotta call it how I see it.”
A few moments later, Aaron Harrison posted another individual post, separate from the conversation, saying “Being a real one doesn’t always pay but it pays off.”
To be clear, Aaron Harrison also isn’t participating in TBT this season, but his reasoning has been made known from the beginning, that he is back at home, rehabbing an injury still while also introducing his newborn into the world. So, he never committed to La Familia this season.
Archie Goodwin did.
A few hours later, Aaron posted another separate post, attempting to put an end to the online chatter going on between them two that had all of BBN watching.
“It’s definitely no beef at all just hoops talk. Like I said before I wasn’t talking about just one player there was MULTIPLE. He’s just getting the most heat because he was our leading scorer last year and the team was pretty much built around that.”
After everything mentioned above, it is still unclear if Archie Goodwin is going to be available at any point this season as he has still not mentioned why he couldn’t make it to game two nor has officially decommitted from the team yet.
After the twenty-point loss on Monday night, a frustrated Jon Hood took up for general manager Twany Beckham, stating that the roster management isn’t on him (Beckham).
“At some point, everyone’s gotta realize this ain’t on Twany (Beckham)… If guys allow us to announce them, and then they back out, that’s nothing that we can control,” said the head coach.
He mentioned that Twany works on the roster “11 months out of the year” and so for people to say they will play but then not fulfill that by showing up, of course it’s going to be frustrating. Even more so when you get destroyed by your rival and you could’ve dearly used them in it.
La Familia has some work to do if they want to advance past The Ville on Wednesday, not only on the court, but in the locker room as well. This time around, it’s win or go home, so there is really no margin for error or self-inflicted wounds. A loss will end their 2026 TBT run.
Game three is set for Wednesday, July 22 at 6 p.m. ET inside Historic Memorial Coliseum in Lexington. That game can be viewed on FOX.
