The head coach position isn’t the only change for Kentucky football this season. Not only is it now the Will Stein era at Kroger Field, but the stadium has implemented some big changes as the season opener approaches.
Back in June, UK Athletics announced that concession prices have dropped on every item, including as much as a 50 percent discount on beer from last season when it was priced at $10 each. Now, things will be much more affordable for fans. This is a way to make it a more enjoyable experience for families and those not comfortable spending a lot on food each game.
UK students will also have the opportunity to use meal swipes at certain concession stands as well.
Based on our comment section online, a lot of students seem to wish that they would have had this option during their college days. One even said, “Where was this when we were there?” So, this so far seems like a good idea.
Another update is that UK says they are going cashless inside Kroger Field starting this season, joining Rupp Arena and most other sports venues in that trend. So, leave your bills at home! They won’t work.
Now, some stadium upgrades have been announced. New chair back seating has been added to the north sideline of the stadium.
The in-game experience is getting a boost too, with game-by-game themes including a Stripe Out, a Blue-White Out, a White Out, and many of others. So make sure you know what to wear before showing up!
Here they are below.
UK also says there will be new team introductions as well, but kept the details to a low on that front as Week 1 approaches.
“Big Blue Nation makes a difference for our team,” Will Stein said. “The energy our fans bring to Kroger Field has a direct impact on the game, and we’re excited to celebrate the traditions that make Kentucky Football special while creating new ones along the way. The enhancements and experiences coming to Kroger Field this season will help make Saturdays in Lexington even more memorable for our fans and an even greater home-field advantage for our team.”
“Big Blue Nation’s passion is one of Kentucky’s greatest strengths,” UK AD and Champions Blue CEO J Batt said. “We want to continue investing in an experience that rewards our fans’ commitment, creates lasting memories and helps generate the energy and atmosphere that positively impacts our team every time it runs onto the field.”
There is so much ‘new’ surrounding UK Athletics. In just a few months, Kentucky got a new Athletics Director and a new Head Coach, which comes with an entire coaching staff and roster turnover as a domino effect. There is a lot of optimism heading in the future and the stadium & atmosphere upgrades are a great step in that direction.
