It’s game week for Kentucky football as they take on Youngstown State on Saturday at Kroger Field. As we get closer, that means more preseason honors are coming out. The offensive line has already received some praise ahead of the season and now a young wide receiver is joining them.

247 Sports has released their Preseason Freshman All-American Team and Kentucky’s Kenny Darby has made it.

Darby is a four-star, top-200 recruit out of the 2026 class and could be in for a promising career in Lexington. This honor is a good sign something special could be on the way. Why did 247 Sports elect to go with Darby on their preseason squad? His explosiveness is what stands out.

“There’s a long list of options at wide receiver as it’s one of the easier positions to crack the rotation, but Darby gets the nod as he’s already exceeding expectations at Kentucky… The explosive Darby is an elite separator who’s a threat to find the end zone any time the ball finds his hands.”

Heading into the season, there are big question marks surrounding Kentucky’s wide receiver room. Outside of the returning DJ Miller, who broke out about halfway through last season and emerged in a group of receivers where not much production was seen, there is a lot of new with this season’s receivers.

LSU transfer Nic Anderson is someone out of the position room who has a good chance to become the team’s best receiver, but outside of those two, there is a lot of ‘unproven production’ according to head coach Will Stein himself.

“I think there’s some really good talented players in that room,” Stein said. “A lot of unproven production. I mean the most returning production from last year’s squad, I believe, is DJ Miller. He had 13 catches for 175 yards. So Shane Carr coming in with a lot of production, Nic Anderson, over the course of his career, has been productive, but it hasn’t been as of late because of injury. I like guys like Ja’Kayden Ferguson with big upside. I like Kenny Darby — I mean that guy is super talented. Prince Jean had a really great camp. Brock Coffman is super reliable. So there’s some guys, and I would say kind of the no-namers that people don’t really know yet that I’m really excited about. So again, they’re young and they’re talented, but unproven.”

With as much unknown as there is with the wide receivers, that could leave room for the young Kenny Darby to shine early.
