Last weekend when the Crimson Tide came into town, Kentucky had a tale of two halves. Kentucky managed to punch Alabama right in the mouth early in the game when Mi’Quise Humphrey-Grace batted one of Keelon Russell’s passes for an interception and then ran it back for a pick six.
Early in the second quarter, Kentucky’s Kenny Minchey connected with tight end Henry Boyer for a 20-yard touchdown pass. This led to Kentucky leading Alabama 14-7, working their way to a halftime lead of 17-13.
The Wildcats led for a majority of the first half; however, the second half was all Alabama. The Wildcats were held scoreless as the Crimson Tide scored 32 unanswered points in their convincing 45-17 win over Kentucky.
Looking forward, Kentucky faces a tough road matchup this weekend as the Texas A&M Aggies play host to the Wildcats at Kyle Field. The No. 9 ranked Aggies are currently 2-0 on the season and won 50-0 over Missouri State in week one.
With that being said, in week two, Arizona State gave Texas A&M fits in the first half as they are led by former Kentucky quarterback, Cutter Boley. Ultimately, the Aggies ended up winning 48-20, in a very similar fashion to Kentucky and Alabama’s matchup.
As expected, most media outlets have Kentucky as quite a bit of an underdog. Draftkings Sportsbook has the Wildcats as a +16.5 underdog in their battle against the Aggies and I think that is solely based off of the complete meltdown that the Wildcats’ offense had in the second half against Alabama. This first team under new head coach Will Stein is going to have to find an identity on offense and quick. You’re not going to be able to beat many SEC teams scoring just 17 points in a game, if any.
Sadly I think the Wildcats drop another one and go to 1-2 on the season. I think between A&M’s defense and our lack of identity on offense (at this point) it could be a long day for the Wildcats.
