The Kentucky Wildcats shocked the college football world on Saturday afternoon, winning in College Station over the 9th ranked Texas A&M Aggies, 31-21, in front of 100,000-plus people.

After a crushing late collapse against #12 Alabama in Kroger Field the week before, Kentucky took matters into their own hands and essentially dominated #9 Texas A&M on their own home field. After being tied 7-7 at halftime, the Wildcats turned it up a notch in the second half and began pulling away with aggression.

In the first half, Kentucky was lucky to have it as a tie game going into halftime. The offense made some crucial self-inflicted mistakes and the defense held their own. Once the second half came, the Wildcats went into a different gear. Kentucky scored three-straight touchdowns to go up by three scores and from there, the Aggies were playing catch-up, but it was unsuccessful.

Following the historic win, head coach Will Stein was asked about it on live television by a sideline reporter.

“I’m not shocked. This is how our guys practice every single day. This is what Kentucky Football is supposed to look like. I’m so proud of our guys coming on the road, the eye of the storm. How freaking cool is this? Let’s freaking go,” Stein told the SEC Network.

He then followed up with more on the UK Sports Network. “When everybody picked us to not come here and compete, we came here and played the way that we all expect to play. There’s no moral victories, but we took a lot from (Alabama game) and learned from it, and we applied it today here on the road and got us a big win.”

Stein went on to say that a big part of why they were able to perform the way they did on Saturday was how they practiced.

“If you want to play well on the road in the SEC, you have to be physical and so that’s how we practiced on Tuesday and Wednesday and that’s how we played.”

That mindset rubbed off in a big way when they needed it most on Saturday. The Wildcats could’ve just folded on offense when it didn’t go their way, but they responded and it led to one of the best victories in many years at Kentucky.
