Will Stein has his Kentucky Wildcats on the map after picking up a massive 31-21 victory at No. 9 Texas A&M. It was a program-defining win as we enter the new era of Kentucky football. Stein was the first head coach at Kentucky to defeat a top-10 team on the road in his first season.
Kentucky made history with the big win and now, they’re knocking on the door to the AP top-25 poll. On Sunday, the AP Poll was released and your Kentucky Wildcats received the second-most votes to be included in the top 25, falling just short. That means the Wildcats will start next week as the No. 27 team in the country. After falling short with a major second-half collapse against Alabama, they responded in a big way on the road against the Aggies.
As for Texas A&M, they are now ranked 23rd and have dropped 14 spots after the loss to Kentucky. Unlike the Alabama game, the Wildcats really controlled the second half and dominated, leading by as much as three scores in the third quarter.
After the game, Will Stein talked about it.
“I’m not shocked. This is how our guys practice every single day. This is what Kentucky Football is supposed to look like. I’m so proud of our guys coming on the road, the eye of the storm. How freaking cool is this? Let’s freaking go,” Stein told the SEC Network. He then followed up with more on the UK Sports Network.
“When everybody picked us to not come here and compete, we came here and played the way that we all expect to play. There are no moral victories, but we took a lot from (Alabama game) and learned from it, and we applied it today here on the road and got us a big win.”
“If you want to play well on the road in the SEC, you have to be physical and so that’s how we practiced on Tuesday and Wednesday and that’s how we played,” Stein continued.
Now, the Wildcats could put themselves into the top-25 with a convincing win on Saturday against South Alabama.
