Kentucky football continued its historic start to the season with a win over Vanderbilt on Saturday. As they advance to 7-1 and 5-1 in SEC play, they are staring a playoff berth right in the face, as well as a trip to the conference championship in Atlanta.

After their 34-17 win against Vanderbilt, Stein was asked how his team has been able to avoid that ‘letdown’ game that most good teams have. What is the recipe for continued success? Stein says it’s all thanks to his team’s strong mentality and their ‘complete buy-in’ to what they are trying to accomplish and continue to accomplish this season.

“We have good players that are connected and love this university and love their teammates.  They play really hard and the coaching staff is one of the most elite in the country in terms of our preparation.  And how we call games and how we adapt.  We have complete buy-in.  It’s not always perfect, but I think we are in a really good spot mentally right now.”

Through eight games, Kentucky has one of the best resumes in college football and is continuing to make program history dating back over a century in the making. Kenny Minchey is one of the more efficient guys in the country, the offensive line is one of the best in the nation, and the defense is one of the best at creating takeaways. A team that was projected to go 5-7 this season has rattled off six straight wins with postseason hopes the highest they have ever been this late in the season, at least in half a century.

Kentucky just keeps stacking wins with just four games left. They just have to keep this ‘0-0’ mindset if they want to do something very special in Stein’s first season as head coach.
