Kerr Kriisa Out Indefinitely After Foot Injury

During last night’s match up against the Gonzaga Bulldogs, Kentucky’s Kerr Kriisa sustained an apparent foot injury. Since Kentucky’s primary ball handler, Lamont Butler, was out of commission last night due to a tweaked ankle, Kriisa got the start. He played the majority of the minutes at point guard for the Wildcats in their overtime win over the 7th ranked Bulldogs.

Later on into the second half, Kriisa appeared to be cramping up near half court and as he did that, he turned the ball over. Kriisa then proceeded to get back on defense where he tried to contest an open layup by Gonzaga’s Ryan Nembhard in hopes of preventing his turnover from becoming points for the other team as well. As soon as the play concluded, the whistle blew and Kerr went to the bench to be looked at, which further escalated to the UK locker room.

If I were to make an educated guess, this cramp that Kriisa was experiencing turned into something a lot worse when he landed awkwardly during his attempt to get back on transition defense.

It was reported by Jeff Goodman that Kriisa suffered a “Jones fracture” and is expected to miss “3-6 weeks”.

Per the school, the official release said, “Kentucky guard Kerr Kriisa sustained a foot injury in last night’s game at Gonzaga which will require surgery. Surgery is set to happen in the coming days, and while the injury is not considered to be season-ending, he will be out indefinitely.

For anyone who doesn’t already know, that is when there is a break in the fifth metatarsal bone of the foot, which is the long bone on the outside of the foot that connects to the pinkie toe. This is not expected to be a season-ending injury as of now but Kriisa is expected to miss the near future.

In Kriisa’s nine games played he was averaging 4.4 points per game along with 3.8 assists as well. While this is certainly not ideal, Travis Perry did not shy away from the spotlight when it was put on him during their Saturday night game. Also, even though it is not his normal spot, Jaxson Robinson looked fairly comfortable leading the offense for the Wildcats in the 16-point comeback win.

Hopefully Butler will be back in action sooner rather than later and Kentucky can continue to get healthy as a group. As of now, the point guard room is getting a little thin.
