Just a week ago, we were looking forward to a highly anticipated game with the number one team in the country. Many Kentucky fans thought it would be a “funeral” when the Georgia Bulldogs came to town, however, the same Wildcats team that showed up in week two against South Carolina looked much better in week three.
It was a night and day difference and honestly Kentucky looked like the better team — especially on defense — for the majority of the night. Kentucky led the Bulldogs all the way up to the fourth quarter until at the 12:20 mark Branson Robinson had a three-yard touchdown run which put the Bulldogs up 13-12.
Let’s break down the final stats. Kentucky won in many aspects, having better third down efficiency, rushing yards, penalties, and total time of possession. Everything but the passing game looked greatly improved in that game with just the offensive line still needing some adjustments to help give Brock Vandagriff some more time in the pocket to throw. It all was on pace to lead to an upset win until it was suddenly pulled out from under their feet.
Moving forward, Kentucky will get a break in SEC play this upcoming Saturday as they host the Ohio Bobcats. Kentucky will aim to get back in the win column after two consecutive losses coming against South Carolina and Georgia. The broadcast will be held on the SEC Network with kickoff coming at 12:45 PM ET.
If Kentucky comes out fast and playing at the highest level we’ve seen them at then there shouldn’t be any scenario that Ohio keeps this close.
Ohio is likely the third best team in the MAC behind Toledo and Northern Illinois, a conference that Mark has been fond of since the beginning of time. He always advocates for the MAC and in depth explains how underrated that conference truly is, season after season. That being said, hopefully it will keep Kentucky on their toes but they should still easily come away with a 2-2 record after Saturday.
I have Kentucky winning in dominant fashion, 37-10.
The rest of the Cats Coverage staff predictions are as followed:
Jacob Childers: 27-0, Kentucky
Matt Sak: 45-14, Kentucky
Tim Smith: 38-3, Kentucky
Tres Terrell: 41-14, Kentucky
Jordan Mathus: 31-3, Kentucky
Ethan Grantz: 38-3, Kentucky
Jack Wagner: 56-17, Kentucky
There was no Tailgate Diaries video this past weekend from Tres and Tim on our YouTube channel due to some schedule conflicts, but we did put out some great post game content. If you missed it, here is what UK quarterback Brock Vandagriff had to say after facing his old team.
