Kentucky officially puts a close to a long and disappointing season, snapping their 5-game win steak over in-state rival Louisville which came on their own home field. In a very cold noon kickoff matchup, the Wildcats would finish with the loss in the Governor’s Cup.

This converts their regular season record to 4-8 overall, going just 3-5 at home. As we seen today, home field advantage seemed to matter none as this team lost to every Power Five opponent that entered the stadium, with wins just over Southern Miss, Ohio University, and Murray State.

With a halftime defeat of 20-0, Kentucky would finally start generating offense in the second half, finding 14 points. Cutter Boley would receive his first career start during the season finale, going 6/15 on passing attempts with 2 interceptions and no touchdowns on just 48 yards of offense. He would exit the game early in the second half after a targeting hit was made by the Cardinals, bringing Gavin Wimsatt in to take over. After the drive was complete, Boley came back in to finish the game, finishing with a stat line of 6/15 on 48 passing yards and 2 interceptions in total.

The game would end with a final score of 41-14, ending the season with 8 losses in 12 games for Kentucky. Absolutely brutal when considering you play in the SEC and you’re just three seasons removed from a 10-win (now vacated) production. Now the 8-year bowl streak appearance is snapped, the 5-year win streak over rival Louisville is snapped, and you have two consecutive home losses to Vanderbilt and South Carolina, just awful in the opinion’s of everyone involved. The streaks that Mark Stoops built this program on are starting to flip towards the other direction now.

What’s next for this football season? Nothing, nothing but the offseason. Not eligible for a bowl game so they’ll get started on the offseason decisions right now, with expectations already announced that Mark Stoops and Bush Hamdan both will be back next year. Stoops announced last week that they already have scheduled a staff meeting for Sunday to immediately start the offseason discussion. There will be a lot of moving parts this spring as Kentucky will be losing double-digit upperclassmen to various routes, whether it be to graduation, the portal, or the NFL Draft.

Cutter Boley seems to be the guy they’ll hang their hat on for next year unless another notable quarterback gets brought in from the portal, and I believe the Brock Vandagriff era in Lexington is now over with Wimsatt being tabbed as QB2 on the depth chart for today’s game.
