Shiyazh Pete Transfers To Kentucky

Last season it was no secret that Kentucky suffered from offensive line struggles. You had linemen getting beat on nearly every snap which left Kentucky quarterback, Brock Vandagriff, running for his life on many snaps. Not only that, near the end of the season you had players even standing in line at the concession stand instead being on the field during the game supporting their team. Just an absolute failure that had to be fixed this offseason for any comfort with this fanbase.

Even with Kentucky losing a lot of veteran leadership at the offensive line spot, it may not be the end of the world in the grand scheme of things. This gives Mark Stoops and company another opportunity to build another offensive line this offseason through the transfer portal, getting back to their roots in the Big Blue Wall with what made them successful for so long. Kentucky has now added another piece to that with today’s commitment from New Mexico State transfer, Shiyazh Pete.

Pete is a 6’8″ 320-pound lineman from Shiprock, New Mexico. Pete will join right tackle Alex Wollschlaeger (Bowling Green), guard Josh Braun (Arkansas), center Evan Wibberley (Western Kentucky), and lineman Wallace Unamba (New Mexico). He will have two more years of eligibility left in his collegiate career, so he does not have to be a one-and-done at Kentucky.

Shiyazh Pete has earned some prestigious honors during his time at New Mexico State. In 2023, Pete earned First-Team All-Conference UCA while helping the Aggies achieve a ten win season. Unfortunately, Pete suffered an injury early in the 2024 season which put him out for half of the season. Through the second half of the season, he had a good stretch of games where he only allowed five pressures and committed no penalties during his time on the field.

Shiyazh had a lot of good offers from several Division One schools such as Oklahoma State, Southern California, Michigan, Stanford, Iowa State, and Vanderbilt. Vanderbilt was the team that many thought Pete would end up at but ultimately Mark Stoops and his staff were once again able to pull out a recruiting victory on the line.
