A week ago Kentucky guard, Jaland Lowe, broke the ice of the offseason as news came out that he would be entering his name into the transfer portal. The portal doesn’t officially open until next Tuesday, April 7th, but players are still making their public announcements of so.
Next up on the list, two other Wildcats from the 2025-26 roster will be joining Lowe in the portal. Both Jasper Johnson and Brandon Garrison decided to enter their names into the portal on Friday, April 3rd.
Johnson, a 6’4” combo guard from Lexington, was a 4-star recruit (2025 class) for Mark Pope last season and was ranked 24th overall in the country. He averaged 4.9 points, 1.1 rebounds, and 1.6 assists during 12 minutes a game for his freshman season in Lexington.
Garrison, a 6’10” junior from Oklahoma City, Oklahoma, was also a 4-star recruit out of High School. While he wasn’t recruited out of High School to Kentucky, Brandon has spent the last two seasons in Lexington playing for Mark Pope. Before transferring in, he spent one season playing for Mike Boynton at Oklahoma State. In the 71 games over two seasons, Garrison averaged 5.3 points, 3.9 rebounds, 1.5 assists, and 0.7 blocks per game.
There will probably be a mixture of emotions from Big Blue Nation with these departures. Everyone wanted Jasper — the homegrown kid — to pan out and they still might, however, the lows were more often than the highs during his time here. And with the pressure of this program, he’s exiting before it can have any more time to prosper.
The Jasper Johnson experience didn’t go as planned for either side, unfortunately, and there were many moments throughout the year that you could tell he and his camp both weren’t happy about it.
With Brandon Garrison exiting, there will be no more “BG Time” as fans called it when Brandon Garrison was playing well. He had his moments of excitement and great play but they weren’t consistent enough and he often did things that frustrated the fans (in-game) more so. I believe he has all of the potential in the world and can’t wait to see what his career pans out to. One thing that is for certain is that you could always count on him to take up for his teammates when other teams started something. He was always down to share words with his opponents and look to ‘finish it.’
Good luck to both Jasper and Brandon in their future endeavors.
