Jayden Quaintance Commits To Kentucky

Mark Pope just managed to win his biggest recruiting battle to date. Jayden Quaintance, once a former 5-star UK commit under previous head coach John Calipari, has decided to transfer to Kentucky this offseason.

Mark Pope and staff already had a top-five transfer class set in place this month, so I would imagine this would solidify that if not make it into a top-three class overall.

The 6’9” forward/center was a top prospect coming out of high school for the class of 2024. He was ranked ninth overall and the second-best overall ranked center. Now that he is in the transfer portal, Quaintance still was highly sought-after as the sixth best portal player, according to 247Sports.

As mentioned above, he was once committed to the program before decommitting due to the coaching change. On November 14, 2023, he was committed to Kentucky. On April 10, 2024, just days after John Calipari decided to leave the program, Jayden would reopen his recruitment before landing at Arizona State at the end of the month (April 29).

There might be a little hesitation from Big Blue Nation as Quaintance is rehabilitating a torn ACL in his right knee. He suffered this season-ending injury on February 23rd against Kansas State, and is still not fully healed from it. Jayden proceeded to have surgery on his knee back on March 19th at the Mayo Clinic in Phoenix, Arizona. Even with this sustained injury, Quaintance is still projected to be a top-five draft pick in the 2026 NBA Draft. His athleticism is off the charts, so don’t let the 6’9” stature deceive you because he has a 7’3” wingspan that helps his defensive presence at the rim. During his freshman season at ASU, he blocked 2.6 shots a game.

As of now it is speculated that JQ will be available by the end of September. Yes, an ACL injury is never a good thing but with how young he is and all of the proper medical treatment at his disposal, along with how talented the kid is, it makes you have to at least take a chance on him bouncing back and having him for down the road when he’s healthy. This is a phenomenal pickup.

The only other real question I have now is what does this mean for soon to be sophomore, Brandon Garrison? It would be nice to have the duo of both Quaintance/Garrison with Moreno contributing as well, but you never know nowadays what is going to happen with the portal. Does Kentucky keep all three?
