With Kentucky already out of the 2026 NCAA Tournament, they can now shift their focus on roster construction for the upcoming 2026-27 season.
There was speculation that there would be discussions between the players and the staff this week as we dive head first into the offseason turnover, learning who will be staying and who will be going (into the transfer portal).
Jaland Lowe would be first.
It was just announced by On3’s Joe Tipton that Kentucky point guard, Jaland Lowe, will be the first domino to fall as he will be entering his name into the transfer portal and looking for a new home.
Lowe came to Kentucky after transferring in from Pittsburgh but was only able to play in 9 total games as a Kentucky Wildcat due to dislocating his left shoulder on three different occasions. That required him to have season-ending surgery back in January.
In those 9 games, Lowe averaged 8.0 points, 2.4 steals, and 2.1 rebounds per game all while shooting nearly 36% from the field.
His time here feels short-lived but when injuries get in the way of things that can be the case. And with roster turnover as high as ever, some players’ time at schools can be very limited.
It would have been awesome to see Jaland have a healthy season and to see what he could have contributed to this season’s team, but we understand his decision for wanting to enter his name in the transfer portal as this is a business now. Whether it be Kentucky pushing him out or he exiting himself, that’s the landscape of this sport now.
Best of luck to him in all of his future endeavors.
Lowe posted an image on his social media account after the news broke, stating, “Thank you BBN! Always Love.”
