Kentucky improves to 6-0 with yet another win inside Rupp Arena, sitting with now 5 at home. Tonight’s wi would come over in-state opponent, Western Kentucky University, with a final score of 87-68.
In what felt like the “worst” performance this team’s had all season long, they still led at halftime by twelve, 45-33. They had missed ten of their 14 three-point attempts, including seventeen of their 31 shots, but still had control of the game. For once we saw their attempts not connect, and it didn’t seem like the sky was falling nor was it ever in question that they had control of the outcome. I viewed it more as in they now got “exposed”, more so challenged, that Mark Pope’s been wanting to happen since the start.
The second half became more concentrated as the Cats would outscore the Hilltoppers 42-35, reaching a final score of 87-68 in the win. Despite the quieter shooting night as a collective group, Andrew Carr and Otega Oweh ended up leading the way with 18 points each. Here are the final stats.

A projected 22-point favorite, they’d win by just 19 total points.
It wasn’t an ugly night by any means, trust me, I’ve seen plenty of those over recent years, but this team finally didn’t look flawless and for the first time looked like they were dealing with that non-conference November matchup struggles which every team goes through. The thing is, we just haven’t seen it yet from this group because they’ve been so great from the very beginning.
I’m glad this finally happened and hopefully it will be out of their system as we move forward. Up next for this Kentucky team will be their Friday night hosting of Georgia State at 7:00 PM, right here in Lexington.
