Following Pat Biondo’s departure in July, Will Stein wasted no time promoting Pete Nochta from assistant general manager to the head man. Now, it looks like Kentucky has found someone to fill Nochta’s old spot.

According to ESPN’s Pete Thamel, Kentucky is set to hire Alex Brown as the football program’s new assistant general manager.

Alex is bringing plenty of front office experience after previously working for Ole Miss, SMU, Rice and Houston. Brown even recently spent some time as a scout for the Atlanta Falcons in the NFL, which is a job he only held for a few months.

Now, he’s back working in the front office and headed to Lexington to join Will Stein in his first year at Kentucky.

Brown has plenty of experience overall as in his early days, as he’s had jobs with the NFL Network and Bleacher Report. He then spent two years at Houston as an interim director of recruiting, assistant director of player personnel and recruiting coordinator. At Rice, Brown was the director of recruiting before taking the director of scouting gig at SMU, where he was later promoted to senior director of scouting and player personnel.

Stein promoting Nochta was a very smart move. Not only did a lead to adding a young and very experienced guy in Alex Brown, but if gives Nochta more control as someone who has a great past with recruiting and handling NIL. Nochta joined Stein at Kentucky after his time in Louisville as director of recruiting and it looks like he’s had his fingerprints on some things already in Lexington. The Kentucky head coach has assembled a very young staff, but the kind of energy they’re bringing to the program has been much needed. Plus, they seem to be relating to players well.

The program wasted essentially no time filling Pete Nochta’s old spot after they quickly promoted him following Pat Biondo’s abrupt decision to step down as the program’s GM. Nochta and Brown look to be a very promising duo given the experience they’ve already gained at their age and we’ll get to see what they have in store together soon but in Lexington.
