Kentucky football is now back in the top-25 after upsetting No. 10 LSU in Kroger Field on Saturday night. In a game full of back-and-forth explosive plays by both teams, it was Kentucky that got the last laugh and responded when they needed to most, both in regulation and overtime.
A defensive stop gave Kentucky the ball with just under two minutes left in the fourth quarter before Kenny Minchey drove Kentucky down the field and the Wildcats were then forced to kick a game-tying field goal to send it to overtime. Then, in extra time, LSU scored first, but Kentucky had a score of their own, and Will Stein did what he did against South Carolina and came away victorious off of a two-point conversion.
Where is Kentucky ranked after the epic win? The Wildcats are now in the top 15, coming in at No. 15 in the nation.
After the game, Will Stein talked about just how much it meant for him, his team and Kentucky fans to get a win like that on their home field.
“There’s really not a lot of words right now. I’m pretty shocked — in shock. Shouldn’t say shocked. I’m in shock. We got a really good football team. Really good football team. People count us out. I took a picture of college game this morning. Everybody picked LSU. Keep doing that. I appreciate that. Gives us a lot of fuel, a lot of fire because everybody doubts us, and this is a really tough group that’s battled a lot, injuries, a lot of change that’s happened since we’ve gotten here, and so this is a really big moment for our players. Really big moment for our players. They’ve earned it. This was also for Big Blue Nation. This was for the state of Kentucky for anybody who grew up like me a Wildcat fan. They deserve it. They’ve put their heart and soul into this just like us.”
Now, Kentucky has one of the best resumes in college football and that number shows it. Can they keep this hot start going for the back-half of the regular season and sneak into the playoff? People are talking about it.
