Cats Coverage Staff Predictions: Southern Miss

As the guys from the movie ‘The Hangover’ would say, we are so back!

Kentucky Football is officially upon us as we are only three days away from football time in the bluegrass. What better way to celebrate than to get some score predictions from our staff.

The first game of the season is against the Southern Miss Golden Eagles, set for Saturday, August 31st.

The last time Kentucky played the Golden Eagles was when they had a season-opener against them back in 2016. They would also play them on the road in 2017, facing Southern Miss in back-to-back seasons. In 2016, Kentucky fell to the Golden Eagles with a score of 44-35. The following year, the Wildcats traveled to Hattiesburg, Mississippi and squeaked out a win 24-17.

The Kentucky Wildcats are 3-1 against Southern Miss and I fully expect them to handle business this opening weekend. The current betting spread is -28 for Kentucky, making them the clear favorite. Although I expect a victory for the Cats, I think Southern Miss covers. My prediction for a final score is 38-13, Kentucky.

The rest of the Cats Coverage Staff predictions are as followed:

Jacob Childers: 44-3, Kentucky

Braden Nevius: 45-13, Kentucky

Matt Sak: 42-7, Kentucky

Jordan Mathus: 48-13, Kentucky

Ethan Grantz: 45-14, Kentucky

Tim Smith: 34-17, Kentucky

Tres Terrell: 42-14, Kentucky

The staff is unanimous and isn’t expecting a repeat of 2016.

While we are preparing for the first game of the season this Saturday, please enjoy this clip of what we consider the third best moment in the Mark Stoops era, aligned with the 3-day mark distance from game day.
