Kentucky is getting noticed by national media after their upset win over number six Ole Miss yesterday. Yes, the South Carolina game still happened but Kentucky was a field goal away from beating the both Georgia and Ole Miss. This would have put Kentucky 4-1 on the season and most likely solidly inside the top 15-20 in the nation.

However, Kentucky is 3-2 but has shown glimpses of greatness this season especially on defense. I don’t know how you can rank defenses but if you ask me Kentucky is making a strong case for having a top-10 defense in the nation. I think this is one of the reasons as to why people like Brett McMurphy with Action Network HQ has the Cats in his top-25 after this weekend.

ESPN has developed a system called the Football Power Index (FPI) that measures team strength and uses it to forecast games every week. Each team’s FPI rating is composed of predictive offensive, defensive, and special teams.

ESPN’s FPI has Kentucky moving up quite a bit after their impressive victory on Saturday.

According to them Kentucky is in the top-25 and number twenty-three. Also giving Kentucky’s defense some respect as they have them ranked inside the top-10 at number nine.

It will be interesting to see how both the AP and Coaches polls look like come Monday but as of now Kentucky is clearly in the minds of national media after their performances over the last 2-3 weeks.
