The first official preseason AP Poll is now out and Kentucky fans are curious as to where this brand new roster and staff will line-up at amongst the country. In about 2.5 months the program was all turned upside down looking for a new coach, new coaching staff, and a new roster. It was all thrown together so quickly but organized enough to make fans feel promising about what they’re going to see this season. Now just a few months later, we’re getting to know the new faces and are inching closer and closer to seeing them play games on the schedule.
Here is the first preseason AP Poll, which has the Wildcats sitting at 23rd overall.
- Kansas
- Alabama
- UConn
- Houston
- Iowa State
- Gonzaga
- Duke
- Baylor
- North Carolina
- Arizona
- Auburn
- Tennessee
- Texas A&M
- Purdue
- Creighton
- Arkansas
- Indiana
- Marquette
- Texas
- Cincinnati
- Florida
- UCLA
- Kentucky
- Ole Miss
- Rutgers
Voted on by the Associated Press, the Kentucky men’s basketball team comes in ranked 23rd overall, just barely cracking the top twenty-five.
They find themselves ahead of Ole Miss and right behind UCLA. Other notable rankings are Kansas at number one, Duke at number seven, and Arkansas at number sixteen. The back-to-back national champions of UConn are firmly in third, and there are also nine SEC teams ranked.
I know there is a lot of uncertainty about the “new” program but there are many teams listed ahead of Kentucky that I’m not sure I agree with. Without any evidence on tape to go off of, I understand how the unknown could hesitate voters, so I’m not super concerned about this essentially meaningless preseason AP Poll, but I guess I just had them a little higher in my mind.
Kentucky embarked on the start of their basketball season last Friday night with Big Blue Madness in Rupp Arena, with next the Blue-White Game taking place next Friday in Memorial Coliseum on October 18th. Their first exhibition will be just five days later against Kentucky Wesleyan (Oct. 23), so getting our first glimpse of this team against different jerseys isn’t too far away.
