It’s no question that this team likes to score a lot points when stepping onto the floor, and guess what? They are very good at it. Earning most of their point production from Jaxson Robinson early on, this team is full of shot makers and contributors that extends to nearly ten people deep each game.
Through two unofficial exhibitions and two regular season games, the Wildcats have cracked triple-digit totals almost every time. Against Kentucky Wesleyan they put up 123 points which was followed by 98 against Minnesota State. To start the regular season where these points actually get to count, they would score 103 against Wright State and 100 against Bucknell.
We’re seeing very early signs that this will be a top-ten team in the country in terms of offense on a nightly basis. As they ramp up to face #6 Duke in the Champions Classic on Tuesday, we should expect the final score for that to likely be the lowest thus far, but I still expect it to be pretty high when considering the opponent they will be going up against.
Through the first two official games of the season, Koby Brea is leading the books with 38 total points scored, sparked by his big 20-point game against the Bucknell Bison. Right behind him is Otega Oweh with 31 points, then Jaxson Robinson with 25.
In the most efficient shooter category, the top-three leaders are Koby Brea at 73.7% (14/19), Andrew Carr at 72.7% (8/11), and Amari Williams at 71.4% (10/14) for players who have attempted at least ten field goals or more.
To take thee triple crown, Koby Brea also leads in three-point field goal percentage owning an eye-opening 83.3% on 10/12 attempts, leading Ansley Almonor at 33.3% on 3/9 and Jaxson Robinson at 30.8% on 4/13 attempts.
Of course we’ve only seen a small sample size of just two game against inferior opponents, but as I always say, it could be a lot worse. Your team could be playing these “easier opponents” and not putting up near as many points or not making near as many shots as well, so let’s enjoy that there’s been no gradual build-up to start the year and that they’ve been spot-on from the start.
As a collective group, they’ve made 77 of their 144 field goals (53.5%) and 24 of their 60 three-point attempts (40.0%). Their 203 combined points is putting them at a 101.5 point average per game as well.
Exciting times to be a fan of a college basketball offense to say the least, and now we’ll get to see this high-powered offense get truly tested as they face #6 Duke in the Champions Classic on Tuesday night.
