Cats Coverage Staff Predictions: Texas A&M

This past Saturday night in Starkville, the Wildcats did something they had not done yet this season in their 16 completed games. They won a “true” road game, taking out the top-15 ranked Bulldog team on their home court, 95-90. That win earned Kentucky another quad one win to go onto their resume, now sitting 4-0 against top-15 teams faced.

Teams coached by Mississippi State Head Coach Chris Jans are typically known for their tough defense against their opponents. However, Kentucky managed to put up a very impressive 95 points in route to their victory. This was thanks again to six Wildcat players earning double-digit scoring performances with Jaxson Robinson leading the way at 27.

Kentucky is facing two more top-15 teams this week, starting with eleventh ranked Texas A&M tonight in Rupp Arena. After tonight, they’ll face No. 4 Alabama at 12:00 PM Saturday afternoon. These two opportunities mean two more chances for quad one wins to help boost the Wildcats’ resume come tournament time. Some unfortunate but significant news came out yesterday evening with the release of the SEC Initial Injury Report, announcing that Texas A&M’s star guard, Wade Taylor, will be out for tonight’s game against Kentucky. He missed a few games before this one too for the Aggies, but he will not be active in Lexington this season.

You never wish an injury on any particular player but this should definitely help Kentucky’s chances of winning tonight with Taylor’s absence. He’s had Kentucky’s number in years past and Kentucky will finally catch a break from it this round.

Also, Andrew Carr is also expected to play according to Kentucky Head Coach Mark Pope. He’s has had a lingering back injury that had his status as questionable this past Saturday night at Mississippi State, with Pope giving fans an update on Monday night during his radio show that he would be a “game time decision” on Tuesday, with expectations to play.

I’m sure Kentucky will be glad to be playing back home in Rupp Arena tonight after their two-game road stretch. Kentucky is 10-0 at home so far on the season and if they can build on the momentum from last Saturday’s game I think there is a good chance that Mark Pope’s squad can improve to 3-1 in SEC play tonight. I am hoping that we see the same Jaxson Robinson again tonight, one who exuded confidence when shooting the ball against Mississippi State, here in front of the home crowd.

Until Kentucky proves me wrong I will continue to pick them to win at home because it is crucial this year to win your home games with the SEC being as competitive as it is. I think you see Kentucky take advantage of the absence of Wade Taylor and I think the Wildcats’ quickness will be too much for the Aggies to handle. Kentucky wins comfortably 92-81. I believe the MVP of the game belongs to Jaxson Robinson.
