Cats Coverage Staff Predictions: Alabama

This past week, Kentucky managed to go 2-0 with two huge wins over top-15 opponents. Kentucky went on the road to face No. 14 Mississippi State and then played host to No. 11 Texas A&M. I was curious as to how the Wildcats would respond after a very disappointing loss at Georgia and they exceeded my expectations by far.

Jaxson Robinson has been a huge part of this success, as he’s averaged 59% shooting (52% from 3-point range). He also has 5.5 rebounds, 2 assists, and 24.5 points per game. Before Kentucky even played their first game this season, many expected Robinson to be “the guy”. Jaxson didn’t particularly have the best start this season but he is showing now why he was coveted during the offseason by his then head coach, Mark Pope, traveling from BYU to Kentucky together.

Kentucky, once again, will be hosting another top-5 team today in Rupp Arena. The Alabama Crimson Tide will be coming to town in hopes of cooling the red hot Wildcats off. Both Alabama and Kentucky are in the top-3 in offensive efficiency so tomorrow’s game should be a spectacle for those in attendance.

Kentucky only played Nate Oats’ squad one time last season but that is when they had one of the best shooting performances in my recent memory. Kentucky won that game 117-95, with Justin Edwards going 10/10 from the field. I expect this game to be very similar as both Nate Oats and Mark Pope have very similar coaching philosophies. Expect a lot of shots and if both teams are on then this game could go back-and-forth for forty minutes.

At the beginning of the season I thought Kentucky would win two out of the four games at home when they played Florida, Alabama, Tennessee and Auburn. I don’t see Kentucky beating Auburn with how they’re playing at the moment so that leaves Alabama and Tennessee. I think Kentucky has a better chance with Alabama, oddly enough. The reason being is because I feel like they matchup with them better, but we will just have to wait and see.

Today I’m picking the ‘Cats to win, 91-88. My MVP selection goes to Koby Brea.
