Kam Williams Continues Rehabbing Left Foot Injury Throughout the Off-Season

There has been some concern swirling around Kentucky’s Kam Williams walking around in a boot this offseason, especially after the returning Wildcat showed up to La Familia’s opening TBT game at Memorial Coliseum on Saturday with some help from crutches as well.

I can assure Big Blue Nation that there is no need to fret, as Williams is looking to fully recover from his broken left foot, which he suffered on Jan. 21 of last season against Texas, before the 2026-27 campaign tips off this November. Williams was officially diagnosed with a Jones fracture on his left foot.

Along with the boot, in an effort to make sure he is ready to go for the season, Williams has yet to participate in any on-court activities with the Wildcats this summer.

If head coach Mark Pope learned any lessons from his first two years at the helm of his alma mater, he would realize that injuries can derail a season, and it seems as if he is accounting for that by keeping Williams sidelined throughout the off-season.

After exiting the game against Texas following just 16 minutes of playing time, it took until the 2026 SEC Tournament in March when UK battled LSU for the first-year Wildcat to suit up and see the court again. Williams played a combined 37 minutes across UK’s three SEC Tournament contests, putting up six points, rattling in two 3-pointers, one against LSU in the first round and one against Missouri in the second round. Williams shot 0-1 from deep in the Quarterfinal against the Florida Gators, but managed to record one assist and one steal. This would have all come just under two months from when the foot injury took place.

In the NCAA Tournament, Williams played 10 minutes against Santa Clara in the Round of 64 and 19 minutes against Iowa State in the Round of 32. Through both of those contests, Williams combined for eight points, two rebounds and one steal.

Now in July, as Williams still rocks a boot, it seems as if the 6-foot-8 guard may not have been fully healthy for the postseason, or something may have forced it to flare up in the offseason; nobody really knows for sure.

But, one thing is for sure, though, and that is that Mark Pope seems to be doing the right thing in an effort to make sure one of his returning players will be good-to-go or at least close to it once November rolls in. He has been held out of all summer activities as he rehabs the injury.

What’s the point of rushing Kam Williams’ return when there are still about three months and some change to go until the regular season begins?
