Cats Coverage Staff Predictions: Ole Miss

Last week we were discussing Kentucky’s somehow disappointing one-point loss to number one ranked Georgia as they played them all the way down to the wire. There are always questions that surface after those games in concern if that kind of performance will transfer to the next game or not. Defensively I think Kentucky looked solid still against a top-3 MAC school, however, even though the offense put up 41 points in total, thirteen of those came from either field goals or the solo pick six from Maxwell Hairston.

Kentucky quarterback Brock Vandagriff didn’t look bad in week four. He went 17 for 24 passing for 237 yards and a quarterback rating of 79.1. All this being said, another week went by without a passing touchdown from the Georgia transfer.

Kentucky looks forward now as they head on the road to face a top-10 team in Ole Miss. The game is this Saturday with kickoff coming at 12:00 PM ET/11:00 AM CT. ABC will be broadcasting the game.

Georgia was a huge test for Kentucky early on into the season and this game will be no different. The biggest difference is that this is Kentucky’s first road game of the season. It comes with an early start time of 11:00 AM local time, so, much earlier than any game we’ve had this season.

We spoke to Brock Vandagriff and Zion Childress on Wednesday night and this is what they had to say regarding getting prepared for the early morning kickoff.

Earlier this week the opening spread on Draft Kings Sportsbook had Kentucky at +17.5. Personally, I think that is a pretty good line. The folks in Vegas usually know what they’re talking about. With that being said, I like Kentucky to cover the spread mostly due to their defensive abilities. There is a slight chance of precipitation for Saturday’s game thanks to Hurricane Helene. If that ends up being the case, I think this would assist Kentucky as both teams will likely implement the run game on their snaps which Kentucky has always had success in.

I still think Kentucky falls to 2-3 on the season as Ole Miss prevails 27-16.
